Governor Blagojevich signed legislation into law on August 4, 2003 which enables Union Firefighters to have a fair and equal chance at promotions within their Fire Departments. The AFFI sponsored bill took nearly 10 years to become Law. For too many years, Fire Department promotions were based on popularity and not merit. This new Law will give all Firefighters a level playing field in the promotional process. Thanks to AFFI President Dave Foreman, the AFFI Legislative Representatives, and all involved to get this important piece of legislation passed.
